Policy: Irish Government & EU

Keeping up to date with cultural policy nationally and internationally is important. Awareness of the overall future direction that the Irish government and the European union are taking in relation to cultural and social policies can help with an organizations ability to access funding and develop collaborative projects.

Discover Art Shortlisted for Children's Book of the Year Award 2008
Discover Art at Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane written by Jessica O'Donnell was shortlisted for the 2008 Bisto Children's Book of the Year Award. The CBI Bisto Book of the Year Awards are presented annually in recognition of excellence in writing and illustration.

Discover Art explores the Hugh Lane's wonderful collection of modern and contemporary art and includes ideas for art activities contributed by artists who have participated in the Hugh Lane's programmes for children. Since its launch last June, Discover Art has been enthusiastically received and has become one of the best selling books in the Hugh Lane gallery bookshop. To celebrate the Hugh Lane gallery's centenary year a copy of Discover Art was sent to every primary school in the Republic of Ireland in April 2008. This programme was generously supported by the Department of Arts, Sport and Tourism.

The European Cultural Parliament was founded in the premises of the Council of Europe, Strasbourg, in 2001. In addition, the founders of the ECP wished to strengthen the dialogue between citizens in Eastern and Western Europe and between the various arts sectors.
