Summer 2007
Sean McSweeney  Retrospective

The children were invited to participate through our gallery publicity - calendar of events, website and local press.  The Model Education team worked with the Resource Centre in Cranmore (area for regeneration) and the SCCC (Sligo County Childcare Committee) to involve children from disadvantaged areas and new communities.

background:

Children all over Sligo look forward to the summer projects at the Model, which offers children an opportunity to engage in exciting workshops, both in the gallery and off-site.  The summer projects are a direct response to the exhibitions programme and in the past, children have made worked on the beach, in fields, artists studios and other locations.

aims of leading partner:

To develop a meaningful engagement with children of all ages.
To develop imaginative and creative summer workshops, for children to enjoy and remember, in an out-of-school context of learning.
To make a long-term positive impact on children.

development and delivery:

The Model Curator of Education and Assistant Curator, Invited Artists

funding: Through the gallery
outcomes:

The gallery works directly with the Sligo County Childcare Committee, Cranmore Resource Centre (as part of the inner city regeneration); and Globe House Hostel for asylum seekers.  This project is an opportunity
for children, inclusive of those experiencing disadvantage, to experience
and learn about art in a fun and creative way.
